Celebrating a Special Milestone With a Very Special Visit

This initiative has always been about community. By the community, for the community. So we were delighted to have an overwhelming show of support from the York Region Paramedics, Mayor John Taylor, MP Tony Van Bynen, and the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce on Friday.

They paid a special visit to our Intake & Sanitization Facility at Hollingsworth Arena on May 8, 2020. We were really thrilled to be able to show them around and discuss our operations with them. Without the Town of Newmarket, we would not have our Intake & Sanitization Facility, so we were very happy to showcase what we’ve done with the space and thank them for their support. We also had representatives present from NewMakeIt and STEM Minds, who have been working hard for the past month to keep our production running.

The York Region Paramedic team arrived at our facility to pick up donated face shields for their unit. Their team consisted of Deputy Chief Iain Park, Superintendent Vick Bisnath and a Paramedic crew with their ambulance. Our donation of 100 face shields put us at over 1,000 face shields donated in total!

This is a huge milestone for the Ontario PPE Collective. Our team of volunteers was very grateful for this special visit; it was incredibly rewarding, and it meant a lot for us to see what we have been working towards.

We decided not to finish the week off with 1,000 donations. With a few more deliveries, including 140 face shields to a hospital in North York, we were able to round off the week with over 1,250 face shields donated!

This week was definitely very busy, but the weeks to come will only get busier and busier. We need more people on our team to get more donations out! We’re currently looking for 3D printing volunteers — register online here to join our team!

Besides volunteers, we are also in need of more supplies. Making a donation to our GoFundMe page would go a long way in making sure we have the materials we need to make PPE for our brave frontline workers. Donations of any amount are very much appreciated.

If you are a nurse, PSW, doctor, or other health care professional who is in need of face shields, we welcome you to submit a request. We will be in touch to arrange a delivery as soon as possible!

We have some more exciting news coming up next week — more deliveries scheduled, and a fun new way in which you can join and contribute to our efforts! Stay tuned!
